Why marrakech is called the red city?

Marrakech is called the Red City because of the distinctive reddish hue of its buildings and walls, especially those made from local sandstone and rammed earth (pisé). The traditional use of these readily available red clay materials for construction across the city, including its historic ramparts and many structures within the Medina, gives Marrakech its iconic crimson appearance, particularly vivid at dawn and dusk.
