Why is marrakech not the capital?

Marrakech is not the capital of Morocco because Rabat has served as the official administrative and political capital since the French Protectorate era in the early 20th century. While Marrakech was historically one of Morocco’s imperial cities, Rabat was strategically chosen and developed to be a modern administrative center, offering a more central and accessible coastal location better suited for modern governance and international relations.
